Success Stories - Doc - aka "Red"

“Red” was adopted by Randy and Maureen (Moe) Sheldon, a wonderful couple from Memphis,Doc Tennessee, who had recently lost their beloved bloodhound Ben to cancer.

On April 24th, the Sheldons drove down to Texas to 'meet' Red. It was love at first sight. The next morning, Randy, Maureen and Red started the drive back home to Tennessee as a family.

Here is the Sheldons’ email to SCBC a couple of days later with an update on Red, now known as Doc, which is short for Dr. Doolittle Sheldon ...

"Hi! Doc is doing great as he continues to adjust to his new home. Actually, he seems to have adjusted instantly. In fact he's been so good Moe says she keeps waiting for the bubble to burst and to see some naughty behavior. Perhaps we should have named him " Sleepy " or “Perry,” after Perry Como. He's easy going enough for that.

Approximately five hundred and thirty-five miles from our home in Memphis, Tennessee is a Shangri-la for bloodhounds. They live there happily while some of them await adoption to permanent homes. Walt and Brenda also live there although they are not available for adoption. This headquarters of the South Central Bloodhound Rescue is where we met "Red" (aka) "Doc." He's a red male bloodhound and one hundred and two pounds of love and affection.

We can't thank SCBC enough for their warmth and hospitality and for letting "Doc" rescue us, as we had suddenly found ourselves bloodhound-less. I believe my wife sums it up best as she writes; " Our broken hearts feel joy once again. We lost our boy "Ben" to cancer one month ago. We now have another wonderful boy we've named "Doc." What a love! He has filled our lives with smelly kisses, silliness, flying phlegm and oceans of water around his water bowl. We are experiencing pure joy with "Doctor Doolittle Sheldon".

Thank you SCBC ... We are so grateful. Your dedication to God's creation of hounds is unsurpassed.

Sincerely,
Randy and Maureen Sheldon
