Success Stories - Blue

Blue was adopted 10-2006.
We had a female bloodhound, Daisy, that we had gotten from a breeder and raised from a puppy. She was such a joy to us but she needed a canine companion for those times when we needed to do human things. So we decided if one hound was good, two should be even better. We looked for another pup and there none available near us so I investigated Rescue.
Within a few days, we were making a trip to get Blue. My first impression was how handsome he was. Then I realized what a sweetie he was as well. Initially there were some issues at mealtime (both hounds needed to smell the other one's bowl-just in case it was better) and a few "scuffles" over the alpha dog spot (Blue relinquished to the smaller, younger Daisy) but very quickly the two dogs became best friends. We have initiated some tracking training and plan to start up again when the weather warms a bit. Blue is a natural with a great drive to "find it". And he is so calm around our grandkids. Our two year old grandson climbs on for a ride and Blue just lays there until he is done then gets up and goes to the other room-he doesn't like it much but tolerates it patiently.
Blue has a sweet, sad look in his eyes like he has never been petted in his life but don't let that look fool you. He gets plenty of love and never hesitates to "paw" you to let you know that, even if you have other things to do, he still wants more attention. And he usually wins. He and Daisy run from can 'til can't then crash on the floor or bed or wherever. They rest a short while the go outside for round two. Some people might say Blue is a lucky dog to have come to a family who spoils him so much, but I feel both of our dogs give as much love as they get.
It took him a couple of months to really relax and become a part of the family, but now I can't imagine this home without both of the dogs. The hounds are truly best friends and they fill our home with love and laughs. Blue is a MAJOR success story.
